AMEN: The Land Where Women Heal- Embarking on the Next Stage
Since it was founded, the work of AMEN - The Land Where Women Heal – was guided by a unique vision toward creating a village of women’s learning and healing. A place where women live, learn, create and celebrate – along with a holistic caregiving response, safe and sensitive, for victims of sexual assault.
Over the course of the years we constructed a raft in the midst of storming seas, striving to turn it while sailing into a steady ship. Thanks to your support and trust, we saved lives, sustained courageous spaces, and accompanied scores of women in a journey of healing, reconnecting to their selves.
At the height of the COVID crisis, we opened the home in Tivon (little AMEN – our pilot project), a space for women who suffered sexual assault and for several cohorts of students in the school of Gynecosophy (the holistic wisdom of woman).
Then, the day after October 7th, we arrived at the communities evacuated from the south. For many months, AMEN teams provided holistic, trauma-informed care on a large scale, both at the Dead Sea and in Eilat.
After nearly seven years of action, the pilot phase of AMEN comes to its conclusion. Led by a sense of responsibility, deep listening and the ripening of the vision, we have elected to set anchor for a while, to draw conclusions and to build a foundation that will enable healthy, durable continuity.
Ohela and all those who have supported us have ample reasons to feel satisfaction over what we have achieved. It is also true, however, that not all we have hoped for came to pass. There were instances in which we failed to be there as we aspired – for women, staff members, supporters and community.
Realizing this is painful and by no means simple – and this strengthens the necessity of pausing in order to learn and proceed.
Starting in the spring of 2025, a dedicated and committed team, accompanied by an organizational consultant and external advisors, has entered a process of deep exploration, learning and reconstruction, toward realizing the full village - the big AMEN.
At his point, we are:
-
Composing the organization’s handbook – a document stating the vision, goals, principles and procedures.
-
Establishing a council of wisdom – a circle of leadership that will help direct the realization of AMEN’s vision.
-
Developing a thorough training program for future staff
-
Constructing a phased program for providing care - professional, sustainable and accessible to many women.
-
Formulating a multi-year plan for the organization and its several parts, with a focus on locating the land to sustain the dream.
The decision to pause grows out of listening to life’s pace, and - responsibly recognizing what has transpired so far – seeking to carefully map the path forward.
This phase will enable us:
-
To support many more women – in a profound, safe, and empowering way.
-
To sustain healthy and committed staff over time.
-
and to realize the vision – ripe, realistic and firmly planted.
In the context of this transition, we are halting AMEN’s activities in the home in Tivon – the place that housed us and grew with us. We experience pain and mourning over the pilot phase coming to an end – as well as true excitement over that which can now come into being.
What do we ask of you?
To remain with us, staying the path together
For this phase of building is quiet, internal and not always visible – yet Is substantive and essential.
Precisely now, when the seeds are being planted anew – evey kernel of trust and support sows future growth.
With love, listening and deep gratitude,
The team at Ohela and AMEN
